The North Carolina Museum of Art has a long history. Its history begins in 1924 and was located near Raleigh capital. I did not pay much attention to the place until NCMA moved to the new place and got modernized. That prompted my visit to the place during the first opening week at the new place (current) in 2010. I visited the place only few times after that. Lately I have been thinking about going back and see new exhibition and the other parts of the museum but have not gone there yet due to my forgetfulness, cold weather and many other excuses etc. This Sunday morning, the thought of going back came back to me again. I am not sure that I would visit the place again today or not but a least I bring the old experiences of the place to share here.
I was fascinated by this art piece. I was wondering what it means (I sure there was a written up about her but I did not read it and any pieces here too :)). I feel the lady pilot was it pain; mental than physical even there are planes plunge into her body.
This sword handle and the sheath are beautifully decorated. It looks quite old and worn out but those beads are still bright and colorful.
This wall is full of sculpture of human heads or faces. Each head piece is not much of interest to me but how all of them are put together on the wall makes up a completely different experience.
This Mona Lisa piece is what I think where art meets science. The art part is the actual Mona Lisa image made by putting different colors of thread spools and put on the wall. At close distance from the wall, one may not realize what it is but with the glass crystal ball acting as a wide angle lens the Mona Lisa picture appears. Cool.
A couple enjoyed one of the art piece.
The painting portrays a very happy family and a very perfect one. At least that how I felt from the colors tone, members of the family interacting with each other and a family pet. I believe the man felt the same.
In side the museum has as section that set aside that looks like a cafeteria or perhaps more of restaurant. The tables and chairs arranged nicely in rows. It is interesting to see that only table for two are their default setting. I guess visiting an art museum is considered as a romantic outing. Oh, each table had two fresh tulips as well. Nice.
This is an animation of a tree. The animated picture of a tree is projected on a blank wall near the cafeteria. You can stand and watch the tree swaying and changing its colors. It is very creative.
I was so amazed by seeing the details of the fabrics in this painting – surreal! I am wondering how much time the artist took to create this. One must have an amazing passion for such creation.
I would say this is my most favorite piece there at the time. Simply, she is beautiful.
This man can glow in the dark. He was placed near the entrance. I spotted him as I was about to leave. An interesting piece and I also like it.
This is the last picture from NCMA that I have for this post. Hope you have little of fun along.
Oh what a fascinating collection and what marvelous photos too!

I enjoyed looking at your photos of these fascinating works of at. The woman with all the airplanes is quite a mystery. I tried to find out something about her, but no luck. 😦 I also like the man who glows in the dark. He cold have a place in my entrance hall. 🙂

I would like to know about her too. If I have a chance to visit the place next time I will look up again. I hope she is still there. You have a good idea to put the main at the entrance of your house. I like that. Thank you.

Such an interesting place to visit! Those planes flying into that female pilot are quite dramatic and really sums up the feeling of war and being invaded. The Mona Lisa is very clever! Shows how limited our human eyes are at seeing this world – there are many ways to see. The art is quite stunning! I never know how those artist all those years ago managed to create pictures that almost look like a photographs. Amazing when you realise how limited life was and how lacking in technology they were, and yet they created such beauty. The cafeteria is quite lovely, very simple and clean, and kind of reminds me of something from the 60’s or 70’s but with a modern twist. Thanks so much for lovely the trip!! 😀

I have similar feeling about the female pilot piece that it might represent wars or conflicts. Ah, that being invaded? That is a good view. I recalled that I missed Mona Lisa at first until I saw that crystal. I am glad you like this trip as well . Thank you 🙂

What a wide diversity of art…the spool of thread making up the Mona Lisa is my favorite, I’ve always been intrigued by such art. As a kid, we were at this place and my best friend said “hey, look at all the baseball cards on the wall” and I said “what, that is a Babe Ruth painting…” and we both looked at each other and marveled at this art…
I would very much like to have the “Glow in the dark-man” that is pretty cool as well…actually, I find myself liking every piece the best. Thanks for the intro!

Those two pieces are cool and I think both art pieces involve elements of modern technology. Thank you!

I think they are not too bad for such small place in a small city. They do have an amphitheater as well which I had a good time watching a rehearsal of Opera performing for free. Thank you!

Fantastic job you did, YellowCable. Your photography is excellent! Each photograph so different for the other ones. The one of Mona Lisa blew me away. I was so impressed by the tables and the trees. The two women, the one with the airplanes and the one with calligraphy on her body as she reclined, both intrigued me greatly, as I knew both had such great stories behind them. Wonderful wonderful wonderful post, one that I totally enjoyed. Thank you! Love, Amy

The Mona Lisa thing (I’m not one for terminology argh!) looks so cool! I’m a lover of art and science so when they collide my heart is happy. You’ve captured them beautifully in your photos too.
