Wintry Days

Wintry Days

Last weekend was the first snow days of this year here. The weather stations predicted 6 inches to 7 inches of snow accumulation. That was considered quite high for the typical wintry days in the area. Fortunately, the weather pattern changed the last minutes (ha! even mother nature changes her  mind the last minutes too). The snow accumulation was only about a couple of inches. Whew, that was a relieve for me. I am sure  that disappointed many many young kids who were excited about snow and were looking forward to have  fun days in the snow and school closes. At least they were not disappointed about the school closed on Monday after.

For me, I was glad and secretly thanked the nature’s last minute decision for not pouring pile of snow in the area. I was still nervous regardless. The temperature were near record low (it dipped into single digit degrees Fahrenheit) and reported near zero or actually zero on Sunday night. That raised any concern for not too young houses. Being stuck in the house during the time also made me felt like doing a jailed time from a rebellious mind. If power went out things could be worse. I think that could be quite the opposite for young kids who felt free from being off from school and just having fun… hmm.

Our nature is always strange, under the same situation some can be cheerful while some are dreadful.

Wintry Day - Color

Can we always have a cheerful mind in any situation we are in?

It is a beautiful snow scene. Snow is inconvenient in terms of life, but I am happy to enjoy the scenery. I think that children are also pleased.

You have more snow then we do at the moment. It is pouring rain outside. For January in NY this is NOT normal. As for your question YES we can choose to be cheerful in any situation. Some situations on the other hand, are so stressful and so painful to be cheerful (at least for me) is not an option. It’s hard enough to keep my head above water. Great shots, YellowCable!!! ❤

      Thank you, Amy!!!

I think it is similar here. It is not pouring but the weather is unusually warm for a mid January.

You are right that we have a choice in some situation and so hard (or often forget) to make the choice..

It’s funny how our attitude changes over the years. When I was a child, I would have like a lot of snow and a day off school too. Nowadays, a day off work comes with problems. 😦

I would be one to cheer for more snow, but good for you that nature did change its mind. As a matter of fact I wish we could have more snow where I am now. 🙂

Is it warmer than usual where you are now? The weather is strange here. This week is warm (for a winter time). I hope you have snow coming to your area soon. Thank you.

I’d like more snow too! It’s far to warm in Norway and not a trace of snow in Fredrikstad … 🙂

Love the new look of your blog 🙂
Beautiful scene, and I would love such a day here because we have no snow 🙂 As to your question – of course we cannot be cheerful all the time. Sometimes we have to be serious and focused. Hope you have a wonderful weekend! xx

I am happy to hear that you like the new look of the blog 🙂 Oh, I did not know that there is no snow in Ireland. I only know there is no snake in Ireland. I like that a lot (not that I do hate snakes but I am so afraid of them). You are right there are time that we need to be serious and focus an there are other times for more relaxing. Thank you!

Beautiful photograph. We never get snow where I live, The last time I experienced it i think I was about 24. Do you ever make snowmen, or does the novelty wear off after you can’t feel your fingers and toes anymore!

Thank you. I did not remember that I ever made one. These days, anything wear off when I can’t feel my fingers, my feet, my face or ears start getting too cold

very good point about the cheerful mind….. ahhhh – such wisdom.

I like the b & w image the most – it lets you feel the snow in the air and really has a mood.
the colored version is also nice – but so diverse from the mono one.
maybe they are an example of the duality of mindset you mentioned in your writing – and how we appreciate different things….

oh and laughing pretty good at
“felt like doing a jailed time”

a bit of cabin fever, eh?

It is the duality of our mind. It seems that we have no choice but I think we do. It is not easy to say once you are in one situation and I am included (jailed time feeling for me 🙂 ).

I am glad you like the B&W. I meant to create a mood of not so shiny 🙂 while I think the color picture gives you a bit cheery feeling..

Not much of having cabin fever but just felt rebellious 🙂

I think we can have a cheerful mind in any situation we are in, but it’s a certain state of mind that accomplishes peace – it’s not always easy, doesn’t come naturally to most people. I’ve not been seeing snow in my area, but an annoying broken internet connection at times. Not something I usually have to deal with at all thankfully. But it didn’t take more than a few minutes for me to practically shout at my screen.. which is hilarious if you think about it… the problem isn’t even with the screen.. haha!! 😀 I have been able to keep a cheerful mind in some situations, but that one, trivial as it is… fails me! 😉

I love your beautiful snowy picture, very pretty indeed!!♥ I can remember that huge excitement of snow having fallen overnight and my mum waking me up with “take a look outside.. it’s snowed!” Oh, almost gets me teary-eyed thinking about it. My parents have long gone and so has my enthusiasm for snow. I too am often secretly thankful when the weather forecast isn’t accurate and it’s just a dusting of snow. And yet, I have to admit, I still like the look of it through the window… so pretty, just as your picture is! It’s just right amount of snowfall. Enough for snowmen and easy to clear – very much Christmas card snow! 😀

You are right. I think we can have a cheerful mind in any situation we are in and it is not easy. I think it could be how much we perceive the situation and how much we understand it. I think we are in the habit having some assumption and that could blind us or get us caught up in unpleasant state of mind.

I am now imaging you shout at the computer screen. hmm. 😀 I know how frustrating one can be from this internet thingy. In particular, if it just goes out when you are in the middle of something. I think people depend on internet more and more. It is not just for entertaining but for doing daily things. I found it so useful if you have to go places. Internet and navigation application are your best friends (I got lost very easily 😦 ).

I am so happy that you like the pictures 🙂 Oh yes, indeed the right amount of white snow flakes slowly falling down or blown slightly by the wind out side is pretty to watch. I really like “Christmas card snow” 🙂

I like the name of your blog 🙂 It reminds me of song name “It is 5 O’ clock somewhere”. You are right, it is true that is our nature. Perhaps, we could accept the nature as is and not thing more and have less effects on us .
I hope snow melt away some in your end soon!

This year, the weather here has been so hot and dry as well. It just has cooled down with little rain in the past couple of weeks. I don’t like it much but I still think I prefer it over snow 🙂
