Washed Away Sand

Last waves have just receded.

They washed away sand.

Leaving behind streaks.

Streaks are like scars.

Scars that won’t last long.

Just  like anything built on sand.

The next waves could heal the scars.

Or create new scars.

When I was young, I remember that I loved building sand castles (who does not like to do that?). I learned that waves would wash it away. I tried hard to protect my castle from the water, the waves. You can guess that it was fruitless efforts but as a young child it was fun. It was fun building it and protecting it.

Summer has peaked. It was hot and sunny this year.  People have taken time off to the beaches or elsewhere.  I hope you find some time off and have a great summer time (or winter time for those who live in the southern hemisphere) 🙂

    I love the simplicity of this photo. A bit of texture, a subtle colour palette, and a hint of water flowing in and out. Beautiful, as are the words accompanying the photo.

    You seem to cover every emotion and beauty of the summer season with this poem and your words ~ and isn’t life just like this? Always fun to build, a challenge to protect but with the inevitable just around the corner…yet we still do it again, and again 🙂

    I’m so sorry I missed your post – stupid me, not paying attention again!! 😉

    I love the thoughts on the water washing away the scars, that’s a reassuring thought. It really does happen in life, bad things kind of get softer with age and sometimes seem to disappear. This would work well with a video of sea and sand – awesome You Tube poetry!

    I bet where you live, you built a lot of sandcastles when you were little?!! I built a few myself in the 70’s, but not that often, as my family lived nearer London than to any coastal areas. I loved the feel of wet sand on my fingers, and really liked those beach buckets shaped like castles, so you could spend less time making them, and build an empire of sand castles really quick!!! 😀

      You are right. As we age, bad experiences fade away or even loss. I think that is a good thing to our mind otherwise we might not be able to go on.

      🙂 I did not build many sandcastles when I was little. I was not live near beaches. Going to the beach was a long hour driving. I only remember built only few times (could be more but my memory about good things also fades with age too 🙂 ).

      Oh yes, feeling of wet sand on fingers or feet is fantastic. I am sure they still feel good even now.

    Loved reading your poem and memories of fun on the beach, we used to build sand castles my brothers and I, and Dad would always dig a big moat and build a big base with the sand from the moat so when the water came in it lasted as long as possible 😄

      Yes, building moats that what I did too. I am sure your Dad did it such that it steered the water away from the castle as much as possible. Thank you.

    great pen YC / beautiful actually!
    and I remember sand castles – we would build ours far back – but as the tide rolled in – the mote would fill and then – um – no mas!
    also – we finally had some beach time this month – super grateful too – I was in Colorado for over 8 years and as much as I loved it – missed the beach – missed the sand – and simple pleasures like what you captured with your words – simple pleasures of watching he water come and go – and maybe thinking of this and that –

    sogni e castelli di sabbia…ma hai proprio deciso di farmi tornare bambina?!!!! i miei primi castelli con altissime torri…impastavo la sabbia con l’acqua e lasciavo gocciolare sulle guglie…era spiaggia di Torredel Lago Puccini ( si il luogo dove riposa il grande musicista, da lui molto amato, ed in sottofondo c’erano sempre le sue musiche….che splendidi giorni mi hai ricordato! 🙂
