About a year and a half ago, I had a chance to go to a convention in Las Vegas. It was also the first time for me to join any convention in Las Vegas. Although I had been to the city before but it was a long time ago. One of my most anticipated about the trip other than to learn from the convention was the scenery during the flight over canyons from the east. I was having a different anticipation about the flights over than before.
My luck was with me. I had window seats on all the flights over to Las Vegas (I love window seat). The flight was also during the daylight . The schedule and the seats were perfect as I could hope for.
I was settled in my window seat and waiting for the plan to take off. There was not much interesting things out side my window except for there was another sister plane getting ready to take off as well.
I believe there was one connecting flight somewhere before the last leg to Las Vegas. I saw the ground crews was working on luggage. I was glad that I did not have to worry my luggage for this flight that the crews had to work on. It was only few days trip and my belongings were with me. I was delight that I was truly traveling light 🙂
Looking out the window and anticipating… While I was keeping eyes on the views below I was also enjoying the view above – deep blue sky and the warm sunny afternoon.
As anticipated, I had the first sight of an interesting ground terrain below. It started to change from flat to mountain ridge.
The ground terrain continued to change below. There were less trees on the ground now. There were also low patches of cloud covering the view. I guess my luck was getting a bit weakening. I was hoping to get some clear views of the ground before the flight ended.
Finally, I got few clear views of the ground below and the view that I was hoping to see. The terrain was fascinating. It made me think that I could be on Mar if there was not the river there.
This is another interesting view of the terrain that could get before the flight ended.
I hope you enjoy the flights over to Las Vegas with me.
Great shots =)

Yes, I did enjoy travelling with you. The window seat is always the best, and you got some very interesting shots. Love the white puffy clouds in #5. 🙂

Thank you, Gallivanta. I am glad you like the scenery. I always try to get a window seat when travel knowing it is a bit more difficult to get in and out of the seat.

That is true but sometimes the view is worth it.

Excellent shots, YellowCable! I just came home from flying and on the way to my destination, I got some really good shots. I was SO excited to get shots on the way home of the sunset and such, but when I pulled my camera out, I realized I forgot to charge my battery. Bummer!!! I was SO disappointed. Your images are truly amazing!! Love, Amy

Thank you, Amy. I am sorry to hear that you did not have your camera battery charged. I got in a habit of having carry extra battery in my bag and that helps.

Um, I did have an extra battery with me which I remembered after the sun went down. DUH! It’s called being through the ringer, exhausted, and just not even knowing if I was coming or going. xx

Thank you 🙂 I think they are around the grand canyon. I was trying to see it on this flight too but I do not think I locate it exactly.

Wow, some amazing pictures! And it does look like you actually did fly over Mars!! 😀 Or maybe, it’s because the pictures of Mars are actually pictures of earth??? 😉 Many people are beginning to doubt those Nasa images now, saying they look too much like earth – I agree, but haven’t fully made up my mind about that.
Anyway, back to your pictures! You were lucky to get such a good view. I’ve not done a lot of travel by plane, and when I have it’s always been a window seat but on a night flight. I never got to see much at all. I might as well have been in a time capsule, I got in one end and came out the other end in another world – it was very strange. 😐
I love your mountain view with clouds above. I still hope to get to see a proper mountain one day. I’ve even had dreams about beautiful mountains, but I’ve never seen one in real life, only in pictures. Have you ever seen one close up?

Thank you 🙂 I like your thought about those pictures of Mars are actually of earth 🙂 Now that you mentioned about NASA, the director of the Mars rover project was one of the key speaker at the convention I went on this trip. No, I have not thought about him or knowing his speech then when I took the pictures. I was impressed by his speech. It was about how his team was successful. Mainly it is around the trust among team members. I think I am easily convinced that the pictures are real 🙂
I know how you feel about traveling by night. Yes, it isn’t much to see during the flight and might as well go to sleep. Except if the plane flies over a big city. I remember a flight into London in the wee hours and the city lights below were fantastic.
I am glad you like the picture of the mountain view with clouds above 🙂 I have seen mountains in real life but only few times at the near by towns. They are cool to see and getting up there (not by climbing but driving up) to see the surrounding scenery is great. I hope you do get a chance to see them in real life someday 🙂

I don’t like Las Vegas itself, but the landscape around the city of lost dreams is gorgeous and so varied. You captured some of its grandeur in these photos taken from the air.

The city does not attract me as well. I have not visited places near by the city except for the grand canyon and the Hoover dam. I definitely love the canyon and I do not mind going back there again. Thank you for the comments!

Great images, the quality turned out great. I take you weren’t using your smart phone? If so…what sort of phone do you have? 🙂 Some of my family is in Vegas. I used to drive all the time from Los Angeles. Now, it’s nice to fly…then again gas prices are so low, I might drive rather than fly. Hope airfare starts to drop like the gas prices have, wouldn’t that be nice? 🙂

Thank you very much 🙂 You are right. These pictures were not taken with my smart phone. They were taken with a compact camera – Canon S95. Its size isn’t much bigger than a smart phone (just about twice thicker when lens detracts) which not too back to carry it around.
I think that is nice that your family is in Vegas and you are in LA. That should be about half a day drive? Yes, I am hoping air fairs drop too or at least keeping the gas price stays low for a while. That definitely would be very nice 🙂
