Del’s Freez and Good Old Time

Going back to the place where you had good time always brings back the old happy feelings. The place does not need to be anything extraordinary.  It could just be a plain, simple local store down the street, any place at all. The relationship you had with the place is all that matter.

Dal's Freez sign

Del’s Freez is one of those places for me. I used to go to Del’s Freez for a scoop of cold ice cream on Saturday night during summer time. It is not a fancy ice cream place. It is rather old fashion than most common ice cream places in town. They just have a serving booth.  There are tables and benches in the open next to the booth just for those who want to sit there.

Del's Freez people lined up

The place is just right on the US 1 highway. People can pulled in their cars from the highway and park next to the place. Some folks order the ice creme and go back to enjoy their ice creme in their cars.

I visited Del’s Freez again a few years back on Saturday night in summer again. Del’s Freez is just the same; plain, simple and still very affordable. The new paint job seems to be the only thing that keeps the place going along. I was there at the right time and was able to enjoy the fantastic Florida’s summer sky.

Del's Freez menu

The items on the menu look about the same. They are just common items; nothing fancy. I like the slogan “Del’s, The Ice Cream Man. The Sweetest Man in Town”.

Peaking inside Del's Freez serving booth.

I think I agree with the slogan.

Del The Ice Creme Man

It was like the old days. I enjoyed a small ice creme cone, relaxed and watched families with cheerful children hanging around…the good old time.

Do you have such a place?

I have a few of those places, YellowCable. Your post was nostalgic and brought my own memories of “sweet” places. Thank you. Love, Amy

Looks like the perfect place to indulge a little. I’d like to try one of their ‘floats’; Creme Soda with a scoop of vanilla.
Do they really have a ‘smoking window’? I wonder how people can smoke and eat ice cream at the same time. 😕 Have a great Sunday.

Yes, it is. Your order sounds good… Hmm, that gets me thinking of getting one around here now.

A good observation about ‘smoking window’, for some reason I have not used the other side to order. I have been using the right side than the other. It is convenient where it is close to the parking lot.

A good question people can smoke and eat ice cream at the same time ????

Please have a great Sunday too. Thank you.

I don’t have such a place right now but it’s wonderful when you do. Plain and simple is sometimes all we need and all we want.

Ice-cream in Florida seems to be very popular! Well, of course it would, you have nice weather! 🙂 It’s quite popular in England too in the summer months, especially at seaside venues – the line of people can be very looooong! 😉 I’ve never seen a place like this though. We have roadside cafés, that will always sell ice-cream and a few drive-in McDonald’s, but not purely for ice-cream. A place like this would probably have been my dream eating place as a child, I could have quite easily lived off ice-cream! 😀 It seems they love eating ice-cream during winter in Russia. That must be a chilly experience!!

I can’t think of anywhere I have that has such memories that I’d want to revisit, not from a long time ago anyway. I do have a favourite teashop at a beach area that I mentioned in a post last year, I love going back to that. I must have forgotten all those other places from a long time ago.

The ‘In Loving Memory’ is that for the man who started the business many years ago?

I think it is hard to find any one who does not like ice cream (especially in summer time). Wow, Russian people like it even more.

You could live of ice cream! 🙂 I would think the same when I was young too. I probably would not think of a place like this if I was not there already 🙂 I think I know the post you mentioned about the tea shop.

Yes, I think it is in memory of the man who started the place.

We used to go to an Outlet Village and there were outside vendors, sometimes we would just have a cookie, sometimes a hot paper thin crepe pancake with nutella and cream or a big hotdog. I’d have liked an ice cream hut like this too 🙂

There is a great ice cream place in Palmyra, NY – Chill&Grill. A very simple place, but their ice cream is outstanding! 🙂 Good memories, happy days 🙂

Love that neon sign photograph-great color and image! We had Zesto’s growing up which happily is still going strong that last time I visited Omaha-
