King’s Cross St. Pancras Station is the biggest interchange station in London. It is also where you can go to other countries from London by train. The station is beautiful from outside to inside. The architecture is well blended of modern functional train station serving fast trains and the English style building from the outside. No wonder that the place is often seen as part of advertise or movie scenes.
The station has another significance than those conventional senses. The thought did not occur to me before until I got there. How could I forget.. The station is also the famous train station that Harry Potter got on a train to Hogwarts school of wizard! The place is real! It must be the same feeling of a child that sees Disneyland and thinking the places and characters from fairy tales are real.
It was too bad that I was a bit groggy from travel far the day before when I was there to catch a train. I missed doing a bit more looking around or searched for the famous platform 9 and 3/4. I wanted to try to get through the magic wall there. However, I was looking for wizard families there and I think I saw one or two 🙂

The transition of the roof structure meets the red brick outside wall. I like the well blend of the modern construction and older style.

A couple of lady muggles walked along the Eurostar train. This was on the upper floor of the station.

Searcys St. Pancras Grand is a fancy restaurant. I did know about this place when I was there otherwise I would have taken another closer look. Beautiful doors!
Now, I think I spotted wizard families having breakfast.
A lovely flower shop at the station. I like those flowers in the paper bags placed on the floor.
This is a fruit store. It makes the station different than any airports that I have seen. It made me feel more of inside a supper market or a mall rather. I wanted to try one of those apples.
A gentle police was helping a traveler.
The lovely young girl and her mother seemed to be looking around. Definitely a wizard family 🙂

Thanks for the great visit to this lovely old train station, YC. I would love to travel on the Eurostar to Paris. I think you’re correct about the wizard families, and I also spotted a teddy bear having a picnic at one of those tables. 🙂 I never tasted a Kent apple, but I bet they’re really tasty. The roof structure is absolutely amazing and you photographed it really well. Where had you travelled from?

I am sure you like the Eurostar ride to Paris. I was on the way there. I was wondering why I did feel incline like going down as passing through the undersea tunnel.
I was coming from US through Heathrow and hopped on the subway to King’s Cross in one go 🙂

So you’ve been to London!! 🙂 I was only talking to my brother the other day about the area of St Pancras as I discovered something interesting to share on my other blog – not about the station though, something completely different. I love stations, they remind me of the excitement of travelling in childhood days, and I’ve always loved the sounds and atmosphere of train stations, but I’ve never been a train enthusiast. I like ornate buildings and interesting people, not vehicles! St Pancras Station is a beautiful station, but in all my visits to London over the years I’ve never managed to visit it yet. I love the modern improvements blended with the old, it compliments it so well – quite stunning! They have done something similar with the station where I live, blending old with new, in fact the station has some similarities to St Pancras, but obviously it’s much smaller, and no glorious tall Gothic style clock tower. I do love that part of the building, no wonder they featured the station in the Harry Potter stories and films! I love the flowers and also the fruit, so attractively arranged, reminds me of the market scenes from the 1960’s Oliver film – very old London! 🙂

I have not traveled by train since I was very very young. I do not remember clearly now how I felt whether I liked the experience or not. I think I might like the train station than the actual riding on the train then. I was always fascinated about big engine or complex machinery 🙂
I have been wanted to travel by train (long distant kind). I think it is more relaxing and comfort than by bus or by plane (the worst one). It is more roomier and easier to walk around.

Muggle is the term in Harry Potter story line. I guess it was invented as part of the story. It means a person without magic or is not born in wizard family.
