A Lost Balloon

A Balloon StuckWhen I saw this scene, I could not help imagine a young child’s feeling of shock from losing the grip of the strange object called balloon. It was probably the child’s first experience with the balloon. The object is fun. It does like many other objects that are heavy and want to fall down the child used to. The balloon is light and wants to get away from the hand any possible way. The only way to hold on to it is its tiny string. Finally, the little hand let go of the string and the wonderful object floated away… in just one quick moment.

I also got lost in time imaging the story of the lost balloon 🙂

Hi YC 😀 When my daughter was 5, she lost her balloon in a railway station. The staff had a motorised cherry picker and retrieved the balloon for Dawn. Did she smile ! Ralph 😀

Hi Ralph, that was awesome. I can understand that must be really a heart broken to lost her balloon. I think I can still vaguely remember how that happened to me too.

I hope the child didn’t cry too much when the balloon flew away. Some children are inconsolable. 🙂

I didn’t notice the balloon at first, I was enjoying that lovely blue sky (I have a thing about blue sky! ;)) But I see what you mean about the feelings behind that floating balloon, they must have been a bit sad. I do just about remember that happening to me when I was about 3 or 4 years old, and it’s a bit of a shock, that something so lovely can leave you so quick. Kind of a gentle learning curve of life I think, there will be much more loss, and learning to cope with those little things at that age I’m sure pave the way to us coping with all of life and it’s unexpected moments.

And wondering about the story behind that balloon – that’s a writers mind. So are you taking a road into writing a story next?! 🙂

I knew the balloon is a little too small to spot 🙂 I am glad you enjoyed the blue sky. I think looking up to see (deep) blue sky is therapeutic (makes you feel far away and forget things around you for a brief moment, I think).

Yes, the story is a bit sad. I also do remember my losing grip of a balloon too. It was outside of the house and mine just floated up and away to be seen again. A good start lesson in for life indeed.

No, no, I am not taking a road into writing. I am terrible at it 🙂 Thank you.

I know how the feeling goes. I think I had some fear on the later chances to hold the balloon again 🙂 Thank you.

I used to love to let my ballon free to float away as far as it could, but my Mum would tell me it caused litter problems :/

It’s a lovely, little story told in one picture – although also a little sad. What really makes the picture is the relationship and dimension between the little balloon and the window roof – and the square forms of the roof and the more organic form of the balloon. Very nice.

😀 Lovely short-story! On Norway’s National Day a little girl got one those new fancy balloons, totally overpriced, but fun for the small ones. She was thrilled, beaming with joy and from quite some distance I watched and wanted to take a photo. Then she suddenly shifted hand and the thing went off and up and away. The girl froze, I froze, accompanied by a a lot of ooooohs from the surrounding audience. Then Daddy said, “come, hurry up, lets get a new one!” – and we continued to breath again…
