I often find restaurants as places that are intriguing. The restaurant owners usually want their places to have personality and delightful. I guess this probably holds true for any restaurants – expensive or ordinary (for everyone) ones. It can make you feel excited as taking a trip to a different place when you first step into one.
This is a local Japanese restaurant. It is rather small but the place makes me feel as if I am in Japan, in a Japanese people house (this is just my imagination as I have not been into a Japanese people house in Japan). I could not help to sneak few pictures as I am a tourist. It was fun.
I think is for more private or for you to really feel more at home. I really like the shoe rack and the coat hanger at the front.
The paper lantern style is used for light figure. A nice touch for the ordinary table.

Love the Japanese decor, and sign to take off your shoes. I went to a Japanese restaurant and we had to sit on cushions on the floor. Hope your food was delicious. 🙂

Usual Japanese house nowadays is generally quite westernized, I’m afraid. If you have a chance to come to Japan, why don’t you find a home-stay style place to stay. I heard there’re some in Tokyo. I guess you’ll be dissapointed somehow. (^^;;

Was the food good? I’ve only had YoSushi and I tend to choose safe chicken on skewers :). I’d love to experience a proper Japanese restaurant like this too.

The food was good or I think I like the food. If you do not like raw fish sushi then there should be non raw fish option. I also like the Japanese hot noodle soup or cold noodle which do not have any raw fish in. Please try them some time 🙂

That was an interesting restaurant – certainly very different!! 🙂 It’s making me smile that you posted this, because I asked my brother what he would like to do for his birthday, maybe a place to eat, and he said a Japanese restaurant would be nice! I agreed, but I said to him “but what am I going to eat?” I have a problem eating certain spices, I really like them, but they don’t seem to do me a lot of good. And I would imagine the food would be very exotic, and possibly quite spicy – a bit of a problem there for me! So what was the food like in that cosy restaurant, and did you have to kneel on the floor to eat your meal?

I think you do not have to concern about the food is spicy. I think Japanese foods are not generally spicy although there might be few spicy dishes. Even so, I think they are not considered strong at all and I think they are rather mild if anything.
In term of exotic, I think they are exotic but I think that is just because they are from different culture. The base ingredients should be quite common – fish, chicken, pork, shrimp, vegetable, seaweed, noodle.. etc. The well known exotic should be raw fish which you can avoid or find alternative if you do not like them raw or raw taste.
For this particular place, I did not have to kneel. I sat at a normal table. Looking closely at the picture, I think the table in side the room there does not require you to kneel. I saw that you can hang your feet under the table. However, to get in and out might need you to bend a bit.
I hope you and your brother find a good restaurant (or try a Japanese one) for his birthday and have a good time 🙂

I did wonder if some of the food might milder compared to Chinese or Indian, so I shall look into it a bit more. I think there is only one Japanese restaurant in my city, popularity is not as high as Chinese yet, but that will probably change. Lots of people like the sushi these days, not sure if I’d like raw fish!! Thanks for the information, I shall look some more up about Japanese food! 🙂

I would say that the food is milder compared to Chinese and definitely compared to Indian. Perhaps, share your experience if you try out the place 🙂

You are right in your observations of restaurants, but I believe more so exactly for Japanese restaurants. They are always very stylish and with an aura of Japan. And then the food is equally great – in my opinion at least. You certainly captured this restaurant’s atmosphere in a very nice way.
