If you have seen dogwoods blooming you know how pretty they are. Around here I see white dogwood trees and pink ones. Both are so pretty. I cannot choose which one I like more if you ask. The individual flower is quite simple with strange petal shape even. Perhaps these make them pretty – I say less is more in this case.
Many places have dogwood festivals. I do not know how the tradition started and what it is for but I guess because of their beauty (or perhaps people were just looking forward to have fun anyway). I have never been to one but I think from now on I will try to attend one when an opportunity permits.
Here are some for you to see and I hope you enjoy them as I do.
A pretty dogwood tree.
A single dogwood flower.
“I dream of dogwood”
Dogwood and Insects (Insects also enjoy dogwood and even more delicious way)
One more with the insect (the other pesky friend has gone – now this is all mine)
The last one.
Beautiful. I love the beetles.

You capture the gorgeous dogwood so beautifully. And the insects too! I would like to have a dogwood tree in my garden but I have no room.

You are right, the tree can grow to a good size but I also have seen some of them are not too big as well.

Yes, I would need a smaller variety.

Oh, I love these pictures. WE don’t have dogwood here, so you must live in a warmer climate than I do. Thank you SO much for posting something that I do not see. Don’t dogwoods have a strong fragrance, very sweet? Or is it cherry blossoms I am thinking of, another that we don’t see here. Lovely post and how my heart just sighed ….. Love, Amy

Thank you Amy. You must live in quite cold zones. In US , very few states that are now shown as growing dogwood zones.
I do not think it has fragrance but I could be wrong too 🙂

I live in WNY. As far as I know, we don’t have dogwoods. I could be wrong. Won’t be the first time.

Hmm, from this link – http://www.plantnative.org/rpl-nypanj.htm it lists dogwood as native plant for NY. I assumed WNY is included.

There might be varieties of the plant but generally called dogwoods. So what are listed might be the same one that I see around here too. I could still be wrong with all of these 🙂

I’d not thought of how pretty Dogwood Blossom looks, I don’t think I’ve ever seen in any in real life. And I’ve certainly never heard of a dogwood festival – how interesting! My favourite is pink Cherry Blossom, but these are very beautiful, and your photography really does them justice – very good! I love the one with the beetle – he’s a wonderful shiny deep metallic blue!! Makes me think it would be a striking image to paint! 🙂

I just looked up how well dogwood can grow in England. According to “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornus_(genus)” it says ” However, in England, the lack of sharp winters and hot summers makes Cornus florida very shy of flowering”. This might be the reason they are not commonly seen over there.
I love pink Cherry Blossom too. I do not see them much around my area 😦 Yes, the little shiny blue beetle friend looks quite handsome. The other grey guy was really bugging the blue beetle when I first them. I thought I was observing a fight but the grey little guy lost interest quickly and went away. I like the idea of painting the image. Thank you for the comment 🙂

Dogwoods are gorgeous. I don’t recall having seen one before, they sort of remind me of the flowers on an almond tree? (I think)
I love your picture – so clear and crisp. The micro bug is absolutely remarkable. What type of Camera are you using?

I have not seen an almond tree. I looked up the pictures up over the internet they seem to be very similar about how they bloom. They are also gorgeous.
Thank you that you like the bug picture 🙂 The camera is a DSLR type with a macro lens.
