Afternoon in Umstead Park

“Tucked between the growing cities of Raleigh, Cary, Durham and the corporate world of Research Triangle Park is an oasis of tranquility, a peaceful haven.”

William B. Umstead State Park

Umstead State Park is one of the area I have not visited as often as I would like to for some reason. It is so close but it seems like other so close things in life that are often overlooked. This was one fall afternoon awhile back that I went and walked deeper than the skin depth of the park (picnic area). I agreed on the above comments completely.

That is wonderful to know. UNC is a great place. This can be a small world. Thank you Cindy.

There were some people there but not many. It was about to get dark soon. It is definitely not a good idea to stay there when it gets dark. The thought of getting lost there occurred to me too (I think I checked the cell signal and it was not there – I could be wrong).

I was hurrying out when I saw this scene and quickly took the picture.

It’s certainly a beautiful place. It is strange how we often forget to go to the places nearest to us. We have a wonderful central park but I hardly ever seem to go there.

You are right. I notice the same thing happens when travel elsewhere too. You are fascinated more with the (similar) things in other places than your home town. I guess that is our nature 🙂

Looks like a beautiful woodland!! 😀 I know what you mean about not visiting as often as you would like to, I have an amazing cemetery on my doorstep, and it’s deep in woodland too – so beautiful and strangely enchanting, but I get so busy I rarely visit. I love to watch the squirrels dash from one tree to the next – amazing little things! In summer there is cherry blossom, and in autumn nuts falling from the nut trees – so much to photograph in there! 🙂

Yes, that seems like our nature unfortunately 😦 The cemetery near your place sounds like a great place to visit. I have been eyeing the local cemeteries but fall into the same pattern of not having time or decisive enough to take a visit any (except one a long time back) 🙂 Thank you Suzy!

I envy you that you have such a beautiful park nearby. In Tokyo, There are wonderful parks, as you know, they are too much maintained by artificially. I prefer natural parks like this. Just imagine that taking a walk and have a picnic lunch there makes me so happy. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful photo and your comment.

I think both kinds are beautiful in their own way. Man made one reflects our wishful thinking while the other must be perceived by us.

      Thank you Goma-chan!

What a beautiful place, and the sun-lit trees look so lovely. I wonder what this park looks like now, in Autumn 🙂

Autumn is not quite starting over here yet. Very few trees are starting to lose leaves. I think in about a two or three weeks where signs of Autumn will be every where. The park now will be mostly green.

      Thank you 🙂
